REPORT: 'Blessed' olive harvest season weighs on Lebanese farmers

Like every year, the supposedly “blessed” olive harvest season kicked off raising huge concerns for Lebanese farmers. Despite the scarcity of this year’s season, it was rich in oil. However, this oil was added up to last year’s olive oil production which has been stacked in bunkers with no one to buy or sell.

In the best case, the price of 20 liters of olive oil amounts to 100 US dollars while the wage of one worker is around 30$ for half a day of work.

This marks yet another sector which lacks governmental support. While it is true that the Lebanese state bought last year’s olive oil production from farmers, it made a very late payment.
