REPORT: Edward Maalouf, an exceptional athlete who paved his way to stardom

Edward Maalouf is a Lebanese exceptional handcyclist from Hadath, Bekaa who lived in Netherlands. A handcycle is a type of human powered land vehicle powered by the arms rather than the legs, as on a bicycle. Maalouf has participated in many European and international competitions including the Paralympic Games held in China last year where he won 2 medals.

Maalouf considered that this sport has progressed a lot in the past few years and became one of the favorite sports of persons with physical disability.

Edward told LBCI that human beings must overcome their disabilities and pursue their dreams. He pointed out that his dream has not yet come true, adding that he will be participating in the Beirut Marathon next Sunday.

When he was a 20-year-old, Maalouf fell from the sixth floor of a building in Beirut and was left paraplegic. He would have never imagined that this accident would be the beginning a long successful journey and his ticket to stardom.
