REPORT: Between the hammer and the anvil: Parliament boycott VS gvt survival

No call made by House Speaker Nabih Berri will be heeded by March 14 coalition which considers that any call to hold a Parliament session to show solidarity with Gaza or to welcome the Armenian president is considered as a solicitation at a time when it refuses to be with the government under the same roof.  Meanwhile, March 8 considered that this step spurred confusion in the ranks of March 14.

In this regard, MP Ammar Houry said that March 14 is showing solidarity with the Palestinian people, adding that his party will make sure to choose the best way to support Gaza, “but not by attending a Parliamentary session.”

Houry told LBCI that March 14 will also boycott the session called for by Berri to welcome the Armenian president, adding that March 14 will be sending a delegation to represent it. Houry called for the resignation of the government since, according to him, it would be the best way to deal with the current problem.

In turn, the advisor of the House Speaker Dr Ali Hamdan said that March 14 is “bankrupt.” Hamdan told LBCI that the session aimed at showing solidarity with Gaza is an idea that was faced with fierce objection before even turning into a reality.

Commenting on the reception of the Armenian president Hamdan said: “How can we boycott an event which means so much to the Armenian-Lebanese community?”
