REPORT: Lebanese revelers celebrate NYE by violating non-smoking law

Lebanese revelers celebrated the beginning of the New Year by violating the recently-enforced non-smoking law.

In this regard, Tourism Minister Fadi Abboud revealed that the law was violated in several closed public places across Lebanon, including night clubs, pubs and restaurants.

The minister stressed that his ministry was unable to monitor the enforcement of the law because of a lack of staff who were busy accompanying and protecting tourists, especially Turkish nationals.

Abboud then hoped that the Lebanese people would respect the non-smoking law but however stated that "it is ridiculous to believe that the law will be applied without supervision."
