Presidential vacuum: Jumblatt and Berri prepare ground for third dialogue attempt

It seems that the radars of Walid Jumblatt picked up the external signals, which indicate Arab and international efforts to bring the Lebanese presidential file back to the table.

These efforts prompted Jumblatt to enter a steady step on the line of dialogue.

The sources say the efforts of Jumblatt are taking place in coordination with the Speaker of Parliament and on his behalf, if possible, to resolve the internal stagnation.

This effort was represented by Jumblatt sending MP Wael Abu Faour to meet Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh first and then to Maarab on Thursday evening to meet with the head of the Lebanese Forces, Samir Geagea. Abu Faour stressed the need to open the closed doors of dialogue between the parliamentary blocs to unlock the presidential deadlock.

According to LBCI information, Abu Faour stressed, during his meeting with Geagea, the need to be convinced that dialogue is the only way out of the crisis and that betting on the outside will not help because the countries of the world are still urging Lebanese leaders to do their duty and elect a president, only then Lebanon can be helped.

On the other hand, the LF's sources confirmed to LBCI that the elections could not be replaced by dialogue. Today, the LF supports dialogue on the condition that it remains within the constitutional frameworks, that is, during the sessions to elect the president, by consulting with the parliamentary blocs in the time-out between the first and next sessions, without disrupting the sessions.

In response to a question about the possibility of the LF changing its position if the dialogue is within external efforts, the sources said that the position on each step is taken when the final formula for this step is crystallized.

The Druze leader Jumblatt will complete these meetings with a meeting with the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil.

These meetings are within a new attempt by Nabih Berri to move his dialogue engines, provided that the ground is paved for this attempt, which could make its results different from the previous two attempts.

The Change MPs, in turn, insist on the Lebaneseization of presidential elections. Their circles consider that there is no need for dialogue, primarily since the positions of all parties are known. "Everyone meets and consults, and the dialogue aims to obstruct further and waste time." They also considered that the actual dialogue takes place outside, and the internal tools implement only.

Hence, will Berri call for a new dialogue before obtaining assurances that his call is acceptable and will not be rejected by any party whatsoever, specifically from the two Christian parties that expressed objections to his call in the past, that is, the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces? Or will Jumblatt's efforts succeed in converging points of view, and thus, the third call for dialogue will be successful?
