REPORT: Mazloum to LBCI: Bkerke seeks unified Christian voice

In a interview with LBCI, Vicar General Patriarchal of Zgharta Samir Mazloum expressed Bkerke's wishes regarding the punctuality of the upcoming parliamentary elections in accordance to a new adequate law that preserves the right of all sects, stressing that the 60's law is unacceptable.

Mazloum pointed out that the 4 panel Maronite meeting which convened at Bkerke on Sunday agreed that the Orthodox Gathering’s proposed law is the "closest to guaranteeing just representation for Christians".

Mazloum added that Bkerke is aware that some Christian parties object the aforementioned law,  and that President Sleiman is not satisfied with the lack of consultations with his person, however "the priority lies with producing a unified Christian stance in this regard".

Earlier and speaking through Nharkom Said, Bishop Samir Mazloum said that Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai is discussing the main principles regarding the electoral law in order to preserve national unity and coexistence.

“Rai wanted to gather Maronites in Bkerke to hear their opinion and urge them to unify their stance and support an electoral law which guarantees just representation of the Christians."

Mazloum added that what matters to Bkerke is that MPs fulfill their responsibilities and ratify an electoral law which respects the people’s will, gives all sects their rights and protects Lebanon’s unity and coexistence.
