Introduction to the evening news 23-01-2013

Both the electoral projects and sub-parliamentary committee tasked with discussing the electoral law have been declared dead, following twenty sessions that led to nothing but further divisions and debates.

The verbal escalation which followed the sub-committee's evening session raised a question mark concerning the elections.  MP Alain Aoun declared that an open ended crisis will take place if a session to vote on electoral proposals were not held.

The reply to such statement came from both MPs Akram Chehayeb and Ahmad Fatfat, a reply that turned into a sharp debate where inappropriate expressions were used.

In this context, Wiam Wahab made a remarkable comment when he said that the phase of election postponement just started.

The escalation in Nejmeh Square was preceded by a unions' escalation launched by the Union Coordination Committee when it declared that today's strike is the penultimate shot before the finalization of the issue next February.
