REPORT: Will the adoption of the proportionality law lead to the postponement of the elections?

MP Ahmad Fatfat said on Wednesday that any electoral law on the basis of proportionality will require a technical postponement of the elections.

In this context, Former Interior Minister Ziad Baroud said that there is no postponement of the elections but instead, "a technical extension for the parliament's mandate" and added that this extension is usually made by ratifying a law that amends at least one article of the current law.

Baroud told LBCI that the only case in which the postponement of the elections is required is when ratifying a new electoral law necessitates some time to apply its provisions.

Baroud added that the voting mechanism on the basis of the proportional law is easier than voting on the basis of the majoritarian system.
