Contacts ongoing with the al-Nusra Front to release kidnapped soldiers in Arsal-sources

Sources told al-Hayat newspaper on Sunday that the Lebanese authorities are tending to accept the release of Islamist inmates in the Roumieh prison in exchange for the release of the kidnapped soldiers in the border town of Arsal.

The same sources added that the demands of the kidnapers are "unclear", noting that contacts are still ongoing with the al-Nusra Front in this regard.

LAF Commander Kahwagi says Lebanese army prepared for any future battles in Arsal

Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Jean Kahwagi told al-Mustaqbal newspaper on Sunday that calm in prevailing in the border town of Arsal.

Kahwagi also noted that the Lebanese army is prepared for any possible future battles in the border town.

According to the daily, Kahwagi noted that the Lebanese army must "stay open to all possibilities" concerning the videos and pictures of the LAF soldier Ali Ahmad al-Sayyed.

Muslim Scholars Association says ready to resume mediation efforts if need be

A member of the Muslim Scholars Association told al-Hayat newspaper on Sunday that the committee is ready to resume its mediation efforts to ensure the release of the kidnapped soldiers in Arsal if need be.

The Association also noted that it is deploying efforts to ease down tensions and to reassure the families of the kidnapped soldiers.
