Kataeb Deputy Elie Marouni stated on Sunday that rejecting the extension of parliament’s mandate was based upon the party’s respect to constitutional deadlines and entitlements, stressing that the party had previously voiced its rejection to this extension.
“Prolonging the mandate of parliament under the pretext of security situation is not convincing,” he said.
Marouni told the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anbaa that the Kataeb will not challenge the extension of parliament’s mandate before the constitutional council, emphasizing that the extended mandate has become a reality that should be handled in a positive manner.
Bishop Samir Mazloum stated on Sunday that Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai voiced his anger over the country’s current situation and over void at the presidential level.
Mazloum told the Kuwaiti newspaper As-Seyassah that regional conflicts are affecting the situation in Lebanon, adding that Muslims may resolve the presidential deadlock if Christian officials did not agree and find common grounds to resolve this dossier.
Military sources told the Al-Mustaqbal newspaper that the army command sent to French authorities its list of demands pertaining to equipment that will be sent to soldiers.
The sources noted that the list includes aircrafts and tanks, as well as anti-aircraft missiles.
In the same context, the sources stated that the Lebanese army soldiers will start receiving military equipment starting 2015 and the procedure will take between 3 and 4 years.
