Minister of Education Elias Bou Saab told An-Nahar newspaper on Tuesday that the cabinet will not hold a session this week.
Bou Saab added that discussions between the political leaders over the work mechanism of the cabinet has not yet yielded the needed results.
He concluded by saying that the solution to the issue relies on implementing the agreed process of the cabinet's work mechanism.
Sources told al-Hayat newspaper on Tuesday that political leaders are discussing the possibility of extending the service of the Lebanese army and the Internal Security Forces chiefs.
The sources added that political leaders are keen on avoiding vacuum in these positions amid the presidential vacuum and the dire need to face terrorism.
According to the daily, Speaker Nabih Berri, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt, Hezbollah (without declaring so yet) and Christian leaders of March 14 camp are supporting the proposition.
The sources concluded by saying that Speaker Berri and Hariri tackled the issue during their meeting that took place last week.
Sources told An-Nahar newspaper on Tuesday that Monday’s meeting between Kataeb party leader Amine Gemayel and Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai at Bkerke tackled ways to end deadlock over the presidential vacuum.
According to the daily, both sides agreed to continue their discussions over the issue next week.
On another note, the same sources added that they also voiced support to the ongoing work mechanism of the cabinet.
Sources told An-Nahar newspaper on Tuesday that Kataeb party leader Amine Gemayel will visit today (Tuesday) the Grand Serail at the invitation of Prime Minister Tammam Salam.
The same sources added that former president Michel Sleiman will pay a similar visit after he returns from the United Arab Emirates.
According to the daily, the two visits come to discuss the current situation of the government and the failure to hold cabinet sessions for the second week in a row.
