Karami opposes Bassil’s plan

Minister of State Ahmad Karami said Monday that PM Najib Mikati and he are not convinced by the electricity plan proposed by Energy Minister Gebran Bassil. Karami and Mikati reject the proposal on the principle that Lebanese law mandates to handle allocation of funds.

Bassil’s electricity plan would see $1.2 billion allocated to the Energy Ministry to build power plants capable of producing 700 megawatts.

Karami denied allegations that the National Struggle Front has blocked voting on the electricity plan during the ministerial session, adding it is unacceptable that the Cabinet’s decision to stay or resign rests with Change and Reform Bloc MP Michel Aoun.
