Lebanese artist designs illuminated paintings inspired by Ottoman-era architecture
The Lebanese interior architect, Michel Bandali, is trying to revive Lebanon's historical architecture by building illuminated art pieces.

Featured by traditional houses and arched windows, the paintings reflect the architectural texture of the Ottoman period in coastal cities in Lebanon.

However, many urban houses were significantly destroyed and damaged after the prolonged civil war and the Beirut port explosion that ravaged the country.

Michel Bandali from Tripoli, Northern Lebanon, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that he was impressed by the unique features of these houses and their arched windows, adding that he previously used to take photographs of the Ottoman sites in Tripoli and Beirut.

He also revealed that he later decided to reflect the arch windows in his work using lamps to illuminate the windows made from wood and materials.

"I heard stories from people that their grandfather or father lived in one of the houses," Bandali said.

In just seven months, his paintings garnered the attention of many, especially members of the Lebanese diaspora.
