Saudi Arabia threatens to expel non-Muslims disrespecting Ramadan

The Saudi Interior Ministry issued on Tuesday a statement whereby it threatened to expel and to end the employment contracts of non-Muslim foreigners who eat, drink, or smoke in public during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

"Non-Muslim residents in the kingdom must not eat or drink in public during Ramadan, in respect to the holiness of Ramadan and the feelings of Muslims," said the statement published by the official SPA news agency.

Foreigners who are caught breaking the fast in public "will be subject to severe measures that include terminating their employment contracts and expelling them from the kingdom," the ministry added.

It stressed that "companies, corporations and individuals must warn their employees" of the said rules.
