U.S. says 'strongly supports' Panama inspection of N.Korea ship
The United States on Tuesday commended Panama's search and seizure of a North Korean-flagged ship traveling from Cuba to the Panama Canal and offered Washington's help if requested.

"The United States strongly supports Panama's decision to inspect the DPRK flagged vessel," said State Department deputy spokesman Patrick Ventrell, using the initials for North Korea's formal name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

"The United States commends the action that the government of Panama took in this case," he added.

This comes as Panama's President Ricardo Martinelli said his country's authorities intercepted a Korean ship in the Panama Canal coming from Cuba, carrying missile components.

The president said in a statement to Radio Panama: "We suspect that this ship coming from Cuba and heading to North Korea might be carrying drugs on board, and when we started unloading a load of sugar we found containers carrying what we believe are advanced missiles equipment and this is not allowed". He also added that the captain tried to commit suicide.
