Judge adjourns sentence of Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto's case

Pakistan's former army chief and President Pervez Musharraf failed on Tuesday to appear before court where he was supposed to be sentenced over the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto due to what police said were "security reasons".

Musharraf, who ruled Pakistan from 1999 until 2008, was summoned for charges of criminal plots and the murder of Bhutto in December 2007.

The Judge adjourned the indictment until August 12. Musharraf, who has been under house arrest at his villa in Islamabad since April 19, had appeared before the court in person on July 30.

Sentencing a former army chief would be an unprecedented step in a country that used to be ruled by the military.
