Health Minister Nassereddine discusses Lebanon's health sector with WHO chief

The World Health Organization (WHO) chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, focused discussions on the major challenges facing Lebanon's healthcare system amid ongoing war conditions.

Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine highlighted what he described as the serious risks posed by direct Israeli attacks on healthcare workers and emergency responders.

The minister said the attacks have resulted in the deaths of 116 medical and rescue personnel and injuries to 263 others. He also pointed to the destruction and damage of numerous ambulances, healthcare centers, and hospitals.

Nassereddine invited Tedros to visit Lebanon and assess the situation of the country's health sector firsthand.

He also thanked the World Health Organization for its continued support of Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health and for the assistance it has provided through multiple programs and projects that helped the healthcare system withstand successive crises affecting the country since 2019.
