Hurricane Raymond may no longer make landfall, US Center says

Hurricane Raymond has come to a halt off the Mexican coast and may not make landfall there, the US National Hurricane Center said.    

"Guidance no longer brings the hurricane inland and if this trend continues the warnings for Mexico could be altered," the Miami-based Center said in a statement.    

The Centre of the storm was lying about 100 nautical miles south of the Mexican coast, it said.    

Earlier, the center said that hurricane Raymond has strengthened to category three as it heads towards Mexico's Pacific coast, making it the first major hurricane of the season in the Eastern Pacific.     

The storm was intensifying rapidly with an initial wind speed set at 120 miles per hour, the Miami-based Center said.
