France condemns settlement expansion in East Jerusalem

France condemned the construction of 14 housing units in an East Jerusalem settlement, calling on the Israeli government to go back on this project.          

The ministry’s spokesperson Bernard Valero said that the construction of this settlement is directly hindering the two-state solution.        

“This solution must be reached through an agreement that makes Jerusalem the capital of both Israel and the next Palestinian state”, he said.      

Valero described the project as being illegitimate, as is the case with all settlement activities in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem. He added that it is “a new provocation that harms the efforts exerted to revive direct negotiations”.
