Fireworks light up sky over Victoria Harbor as HKong celebrates lunar New Year

Spectacular fireworks lit up the sky over Victoria Harbor, in Hong Kong on Saturday, as the city continued to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

On the second day of lunar New Year, tens of thousands of people packed both sides of the harbor, situated between Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula, to watch the colorful fireworks, one of the celebrations to welcome the Year of the Horse.

Angel Ma lives in Hong Kong but she said it was her first time ever visiting Victoria Harbor to see the display "my new year wish is to earn more money," she said.

Leo Tsang also from Hong Kong said the display was "amazing" and that his wish was for "good health."

Authorities said a total of 31,888 shells were discharged in the 23-minute extravaganza, which consists of eight scenes.

This is because the number 8 is widely believed to be lucky in the Chinese community.

The New Year holiday will continue to next Monday in Hong Kong.
