Israel discusses recognition of Armenian genocide

An Israeli parliamentary committee discussed Monday the recognition of the Armenian genocide, a move likely to exacerbate the already tense relations with Turkey.

The education committee will convene at the Knesset to debate the proposal to mark April 24, the day when Turkish mass killings of Armenians started, as a memorial day for "the massacre of the Armenian people."

The Knesset refused a similar proposal in 2007 when Israel and Turkey were on good terms.
