Egypt: Son of ousted president referred to trial

An Egyptian prosecutor has referred to trial the youngest son of ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi on drug allegations.

Moumin Salman, a prosecutor in the Nile Delta city of Benha, ordered Monday that 20-year-old Abdullah Morsi, a university freshman, be sent to court to face charges of drug use and possession.

Morsi's son was arrested with a friend on March 1. Officers said that they found two rolled hashish cigarettes in their car, parked on the side of the road on the east edge of Cairo.

No date has been set yet for the trial.

The family said earlier that the case was fabricated to tarnish the image of Morsi's family. Morsi himself faces a range of charges, including inciting murder, filed after the military toppled him in the summer.
