The US Geological Survey says the preliminary magnitude was magnitude 4.7 and was centered 5 miles (8 kilometers) north-northwest of the city's Westwood neighborhood.
The 6:25 a.m. Monday quake occurred at a depth of about 5 miles (8 kilometers).
The Los Angeles Fire Department has received no immediate reports of damage. AP
