Iran arrests female reformist journalist

Iranian media outlets reported on Thursday that Iranian police arrested a woman journalist who covered parliament for pro-reform media on orders from the conservative-controlled judiciary.

The journalist was identified as Saba Azarpeyk who was arrested on Wednesday morning at her home.

The media outlets however did not state the grounds for her arrest, which remain unclear.

She was among 18 journalists who were arrested in January 2013 for reportedly working for the Farsi-language services of foreign media deemed hostile by the Iranian authorities.

President Hassan Rouhani had previously promised more tolerance on social, cultural and media issues prompting him to defeat conservatives in the presidential election.

Conservative newspapers as well as reformist ones have faced temporary bans from the conservative judiciary since Rouhani took office.
