Villagers knee deep in water after severe flooding in western Siberia
Relentless rain in the republics of Altai and Khakassia in West Siberia has caused flooding to towns and villages and damaged infrastructure with road and bridges impassable.

The floods forced the evacuation from villages near the city of Gorno-Altaisk with a dozen families so far relocated.

Local people in Altai and Khakassia are rushing to build dams to save their property and livestock from rivers which have burst their banks.

In the town of Abazy four hundred houses are threatened by rising water levels.

In the city of Gorno-Altaisk water has flooded the Altai National Museum.

The bad news for residents is that meteorologists are predicting more rainfall in the coming days.
