The broadcast production has already broken television viewing records in several regions around the world as football fans watch matches online in greater numbers than ever before.

On the digital side, Akamai, the leading content delivery network provider, assured that this is the biggest event in terms of video content streaming on record, seemingly since fans resorted to the online platforms of FIFA’s Media Rights Licensees.

According to FIFA director of TV Nicolas Ericson, the World Cup was the biggest multimedia sporting event in history, pointing out that people watched matches and highlights online more than ever before.

It is worth noting that the FIFA TV actively supports its Media Rights Licensees with a variety of multimedia services including fully managed “white-label” solutions for the web, tablets and smartphones.

The services of FIFA TV are delivered by FIFA World Cup broadcast production service provider HBS, with the support of EVS, Netco Sports and deltatre.

In this regard, 40 FIFA Media Rights Licensees have booked around 120 multimedia services for match coverage, giving them the ability to live stream multiple feeds of FIFA World Cup matches and to offer video-on-demand coverage from up to 24 camera angles to fans across the planet.

As for the FIFA World Cup “white-label” second screen app, it has been downloaded more than 10 million times in more than 20 broadcast territories since its launch at the start of June.

In a press release, Akamai said the challenges are manifested in delivering major events; reaching portable video-enabled devices, from iOS to Android, providing a TV like experience, delivering the highest quality online experience possible; ensuring site availability, securing the content both in terms of enforcing rights with technology such as geo- targeting and protecting web properties against DDoS Attacks and other malicious attacks.
