NBC pulls leading correspondent from Gaza after massacre report

Ayman Mohyeldin, the leading correspondent of American TV network NBC, was pulled out of Gaza on Thursday after he reported the airstrike launched by Israel on a Gaza beach, claiming the lives of four Palestinian children.

Mohyeldin was reportedly ordered by NBC to leave the Gaza Strip after he provided exclusive and intensive details about the beach massacre.

Mohyeldin’s fellow correspondents and journalists voiced anger on Wednesday as he was missing from the primetime newscast.

The Intercept later said a top NBC executive, David Verdi, had ordered Mohyeldin to leave Gaza immediately.

NBC has not provided any official statement as for Mohyeldin's departure from Gaza. But speaking to The Intercept, NBC executives reportedly noted that the decision to pull Mohyeldin was due to “security concerns,” in light of Israel’s decision to launch a ground offensive late on Thursday.

As soon as Mohyeldin was removed, the network decided to send its chief foreign correspondent, Richard Engel, into Gaza.
