Former Lebanon-based American with suspected adherence to IS arrested in New York
US officials reported on Monday that an American who tweeted his adherence to the leader of the Islamic State using the alias Abu Omar al Amreeki was arrested at New York's airport last week.

The arrestee was identified as Donald Ray Morgan who was taken into custody on August 2 upon his arrival from Frankfurt.

Morgan (44) had spent eight months in Lebanon, where his wife lives, the New York Daily News reported.

US prosecutors said Morgan was arrested in connection with an indictment and charged with "being a felon in possession of weapons."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, however, noted that Morgan has not been charged with terrorism.

In mid June, Sunni Arab militants, led by jihadists of the Islamic State seized Iraq's second biggest city Mosul as government forces took flight.

The Islamic State has declared a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria to rule over all Muslims.
