Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri and Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Attiyah's were amongst the ministers attending the Syria contact group meeting hosted by the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the SPA said.
The talks come as the growing threat from the Islamic State (IS) militants continues.
Egypt indicated on Friday (August 22) that the talks would cover the IS too.
IS militants stormed an air base in northeast Syria on Sunday, capturing most of it from government forces after days of fighting over the strategic location.
Syrian state television said that after fighting fierce battles, the military was “regrouping” its forces.
Raqqa on the Euphrates river is IS's stronghold in Syria. The group, a radical offshoot of al Qaeda, has taken three Syrian military bases in the area in recent weeks, boosted by arms seized in Iraq.
Syria is calculating that the IS push to reshape the Middle East will eventually force a hostile West to deal with President Bashar al-Assad as the only way to tackle the threat, sources familiar with Syrian government thinking have said.
The U.N. released a report on Friday (August 22), stating that more than 191,000 people were killed in the first three years of Syria's civil war.
