Magnitude 6.9 quake off Vanuatu, no tsunami threat

6.9 magnitude earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off Vanuatu on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but there was no threat of a destructive tsunami.    

The quake, which hit at 1334 GMT, was at a shallow 6.3 miles (10 km) depth, and was centered 76 miles (122 km) west of Port-Vila, Vanuatu, the USGS said.    

Based on historical data, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, there was no threat of a widespread destructive tsunami.
