A Paris court has fined a journalist for broadcaster Al-Jazeera 1,000 euros ($1,120) for flying a drone without authorization over the French capital while the city was under a high security alert.
The court ordered the drone confiscated but handed down no prison term to Tristan Redman, who had faced a maximum one-year prison sentence and a 75,000-euro ($85,000) fine.
Neither Redman nor his lawyer would comment after the ruling Tuesday.
Three Al-Jazeera journalists were detained after being caught with the drone last week. The Qatar-based network said its English channel journalists were filming a report on a spate of mysterious drone flyovers that have puzzled French police.
The drones have worried authorities seeking to prevent new terror attacks after ones in January left 20 people dead, including three gunmen.
