Hurricane Irene hits NYC, kills 8
Hurricane Irene hit New York City killing 8 and triggering the evacuation of 1.5 million people.
 "The edge of the hurricane has finally got upon us," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, calling on the residents to stay at their homes or in reception centers.

Bloomberg expected the water level to increase significantly today, advising NY citizens to stay away from their windows.
Airports and public transport were shut down by the hurricane that howled ashore in North Carolina at daybreak on Saturday, dumping torrential rain, felling trees and knocking out power.
