Migrants hover between life and death behind Sinai’s border fence

Behind the high steel fence Israel built along its southern border in Sinai to prevent African refugees from entering its territories, a group of migrants refusing to return to Egypt have been sitting for five days now, fighting the scorching sun and the desert’s cold nights.

Among the migrants are a pregnant woman, a group of Sudanese men and a dehydrated 14-year-old boy.

While the Israeli army was ordered not to let these migrants in, a group of human rights activists arrived to the border fence carrying water and food to help them survive.

However, as they approached the fence, they were expelled by Israeli soldiers who prevented them from transferring food and water, claiming that they have been “providing the foreigners with enough water.”

In an attempt to prevent the deterioration of the migrants’ health condition, the United Nations called on Israel to allow them in immediately, holding it responsible for any harm they were or may be subject to in the future.
