Erdogan invites Nouri-al Maliki to visit Ankara

An Iraqi official mentioned that the Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki received an official invitation from his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Ankara. The invitation came in light of tension afflicting bilateral relations between Iraq and Turkey for the past few months.

The official mentioned to Agence France Presse that the Turkish PM sent an official invitation to his Iraqi counterpart few days ago, but things are not certain if the Iraqi PM will meet with this invitation or not.

Relations have been strained between Baghdad and Ankara since Turkey refused to hand over the Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi who was sentenced in absentia to death after he was convicted of murder.
