Jordan appoints new ambassador to Israel
According to news reports Jordan will appoint Walid Obeidat to fill the position of Jordanian Ambassador to Israel, a position that has been empty for over two years.

The new ambassador, is a career diplomat in the Hashemite Kingdom's foreign service, AFP reported.

According to some sources, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry consulted the Israeli Foreign Ministry before making the appointment.

"No date has been set yet for his departure to Israel," the official told AFP.

The previous envoy, Ali Ayed, returned to Amman in July 2010 to take the helm of the Jordanian Information and Communications Ministry.

In late 2010, it was reported that Amman was delaying appointing a new ambassador to Israel due to its dismay over the state of peace talks with the Palestinians at the time.
