61-year-old Brazilian has a baby

A 61-year-old Brazilian woman declared to the world that she is pregnant with her first child after undergoing in vitro fertilization. 

 The Brazilian magazine “O Globo” quoted Rio. I., who refused to give out her full name, as saying that by process of artificial insemination her and her 38-year-old husband will be having their first child.

 But Rio’s story is not completely unheard of. Last August, a 52-year-old woman gave birth to twins with her 88-year-old husband, which sparked controversy in the country over the appropriate age for parents to have a child.  

The doctors warned against pregnancy, citing complications encountered by women who get pregnant later on in life, adding that the only way for a woman to get pregnant during menopause is through an egg donation.

Rio clarified that she is, in fact, menopausal but she wanted a child very badly and her husband had his heart set on becoming a father.

She added that she will not tell the child, who will be born in November, that he was the fruit of artificial insemination, revealing that the sonogram showed that she is bearing a baby girl.
