REPORT: US presidential race in Sandy's wake proves tight

                     
The Insurance Information Institute announced that Superstorm Sandy has been ranked fourth among the costliest disasters in the U.S. history.              

The death toll amounted to 100 between the Caribbean and the U.S. Coast at a time when New York City and nearby coastal towns struggle to recover from the effects of this hurricane.                           

Rescue teams are still working in flooded streets and houses to find survivors. Around 4.6 million homes and businesses in 15 states are still without power, four days after Hurricane Sandy slammed the U.S. East Coast.        

To have access to gas and fuel, residents of New York and other states had to stand in long queues.       

The U.S. government agreed to cover the cost of public transportation and emergency electricity supply by 100% until November 9 in eight New Jersey provinces.              

With the super-storm coming to an end, competition heated up a few days before the presidential race. While President Obama is pursuing his campaign through visits to Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado where he reiterated that he is the “candidate of change”, Republican Candidate Mitt Romney is intending to conclude his electoral campaign on Monday in the State where he kicked it off, New Hampshire.                

It seems that the determining state this year will be Ohio, especially since no republican candidate reached the White House without winning the majority of votes there.                  

Polls show that the race is close with Barack Obama garnering 47% support as opposed to Mitt Romney’s 46%, however it will the few days before the election that will determine the winning team.
