Tunisian PM: Salafists won’t impose their point of view

Tunisian PM Hamadi Jebali expressed his worry on the deceleration of the Constituent Assembly in drafting the new Tunisian Constitution, stressing that "the country cannot afford further delay since the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections will be held next June."

Jebali added that this delay hinders the democratic transfer of the Arab Spring revolution, emphasizing that the Salafists won’t impose their point of view on the Tunisian community.

The Constituent Assembly elected Moncef Marzouki president in December 2011 to follow Zine el Abidine, who was ousted as president in January 2011 after weeks of protests.

Those protests inspired the wave of "Arab Spring" uprisings that spread across the Middle East and North Africa.Tension has been growing between Islamists and secularists in Tunisia since the Islamist Ennahda Movement won an election last year.
