EU decries “heinous killing” of Kurdish opposition figure
E.U. High Representative Catherine Ashton condemned “in the strongest terms” on Saturday the killing of the prominent Syrian Kurdish opposition figure Mishaal al-Tammo, and voiced concern over the ongoing crackdown on protests in Syria.

Four gunmen entered the house in Qamishli on Saturday, shooting Tammo dead and wounding his brother.

Ashton stressed the necessity of holding the perpetrators accountable for this “heinous crime”, slamming all acts that fan the fire of ethnic and sectarian conflicts in Syria.

The E.U. high representative reiterated her call for halting violence in Syria in order to make room for a peaceful transitional phase that meets the aspiration of the Syrian people.
