REPORT: Will Israel establish a buffer zone at the border between Lebanon and Syria?

Israeli sources said on Monday that Israel will keep on performing raids above the Lebanese and Syrian airspace under the pretext that Hezbollah is intensifying its efforts to transport arms from Syria to Lebanon.              

The Israeli sources pointed out that the Israeli raids come in the wake of the decision to establish a buffer zone at the border between Lebanon and Syria where airplanes are flying to prevent the transport of weapons into Lebanon.                         

This as Israel is claiming that Hezbollah will be using other means to transport weapons such as dismantling them and moving them via the aid of Syrian volunteers.                             

In this context, Amos Yadlin, the Former Director of the Military Intelligence ruled out any Syrian attack against Israel and said that toppling the Syrian regime would be a positive strategic development for Israel.          

Yadlin added that toppling the regime will get Syria out of the regional extremist axes and said that estimates showed that the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu discussed during his recent visit to the Golan Heights the plan of establishing a buffer zone similar to that established on the Lebanese border in 1985.                

During his meetings with Northern officials, the Vice Chief of the Army Staff discussed various expected scenarios on the Northern borders and stressed that the plans might be changed in a way that allows Israel to break through the border line.
