The Tunisian Islamic Renaissance Movement called for a protest on Saturday to defend the “legitimacy of the National Constituent Assembly” and to protest against the “violence” that started since the assassination of the opposition figure Chokri Belaid. The demonstration will take place in the capital Tunis.

On Friday, hundreds of thousands of Tunisians chanting anti-government slogans converged on the Jellaz cemetery for the funeral of Belaid, a left-wing politician whose assassination Wednesday outside his home has exacerbated Tunisia's political crisis and escalated tensions in the North African nation that helped kick off the Arab Spring.
