US State Department concerned about human rights in Libya

The U.S. State Department called on the Transitional National Council in Libya to fulfill its commitments to the rule of law and respect human rights, voicing its concern over the fate of civilians stuck in Sirte and Africans detained for the color of their skin.

The Department of State had previously released a statement stressing the necessity to prevent the killing of more civilians, treating inmates in accordance with international humanitarian laws and refraining from any attempts to exact revenge.
