Egypt's elections await new electoral law

The Egyptian presidency declared on Thursday that the upcoming parliamentary elections will be delayed until the drafting of a new electoral law.

In this context, the presidency ordered to halt all procedures taken by Egypt's Supreme committee for elections, postponing the entire electoral process.

Egypt's upcoming elections were set to appoint a new parliament to replace the one dissolved last year.

The Islamist-dominated parliament currently has legislative power.

President Mohammad Morsi's opponents accuse Islamists of exploiting their influence to write a law tailored to their needs.
