US army hands over Bagram prison to Afghan authorities

The US army announced on Monday that it handed over the main detention facility, the Bagram prison, in Kabul to the Afghan authorities after months of deliberations.

The Bagram Prison, also referred to as the "Afghan Guantanamo detention camp", was the subject of sharp debate between Kabul and Washington seemingly since the US is concerned that some Taliban detainees may be released following the hand over.
