Egypt partially shuts down airport to save power

Authorities in Cairo Airport have decided to close the majority of its runways at night following the reduction in the number of incoming flights.

The Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Wael El-Maadawy announced that two of the runways will be closed for four hours as of 23:30 GMT in an effort to save electricity.

This resolution will be effective as of next June and was described by the state run Egyptian gazette as "the true reflection of Egypt's deteriorating economic situation".
