Jordan mulls granting fathers paternal leave
Legislation and Opinion Bureau in Jordan is currently mulling a proposal to add a clause to the civil service system that provides for granting paternity leave to husbands of expecting mothers.    

Al-Rai daily, quoting United Press International (UPI), said that the Jordanian National Commission for Women has put forth a proposal that would allow the husband to take paternity leave after childbirth, which is adopted by most countries of the world.    

The Commission spokeswoman Asma Khodr said that “there is preliminary approval of including the clause with a period of three days of leave, however, the commission will continue pressing for an extension of this leave period to one week.”    

Asma explained that the National Commission has filed a memorandum in this regard to the previous government which has, in turn, transferred it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to solicit their legal opinion and gauge the possibility of approving the proposal.
