ICC in contact with Saif al-Islam

The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo confirmed that the tribunal had “informal contact” with Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader colonel Muammar Gaddafi to discuss the possibility of him surrendering to the tribunal that is pursuing him for committing crimes against humanity.

Ocampo said that they had unofficial contact with Saif through intermediaries, adding that the prosecutor’s office made it clear that if he hands himself in to the ICC, he will have the right to be heard in court, and will be innocent until proven guilty.

The ICC arrest warrant issued for Saif al-Islam in June accuses him of murder and persecution.
