REPORT: Internet giant Google adopts “Palestine”

Internet giant Google has introduced a change on May 1 to the tagline on the homepage from "Palestinian Territories" to "Palestine".

The terminology raises controversy on the political level, with the final status of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem yet to be agreed upon.

This change comes without prior notice months after the United Nations granted Palestine the status of "non-member observer state".

The decision by the General Assembly was strongly opposed by Israel and the United States but was however welcomed by Palestinians.
