Libyan PM convinces defense minister not to quit

Libya's prime minister convinced the defense minister not to resign on Tuesday, the premier's spokeswoman said.

"The prime minister asked the defense minister to change his mind and to consider the situation the country is in, and so he decided to change his mind," the spokeswoman told Reuters by telephone.

Earlier in the day, the defense minister announced his resignation in protest at a siege by gunmen of two government ministries that he called an assault on democracy in Libya, two years after the uprising that toppled dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
