Israel gives green light on construction of 296 settler units on occupied Palestinian territories

Israel has approved the construction of 296 new illegal settler units settlement in the occupied West Bank, specifically the Beit El area, despite international condemnation.

Tel Aviv has given the green light for the settler units; the first stage of a process before actual construction, an Israeli official confirmed on Thursday.

“The new units are part of a compensatory measure for settlers evicted from the illegal Ulpana outpost,” the official added. Over half a million Israeli nationals live in more than 120 illegal settlements built in Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Easter Jerusalem since the 1967 occupation.

This announcement comes days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a halt on all tenders for new settler units.

The United Nations also called on the Tel Aviv regime on to halt its settlement activities.

Tel Aviv maintains a defiant stance on the issue of its illegal settlements on Palestinian land as it refuses to freeze settlement expansion. Tel Aviv has come under repeated international denunciation over the issue.
